As I’ve mentioned before, I work in a semi-fast food restaurant. Occasionally that means working the Drive-Thru. Usually I love it, sometimes people do things that make my job less awesome. Here are some tips so you don’t become ‘that person’ in the drive thru:
#5. Loud Cars
So this first one isn’t actually your fault, but it is annoying. If your car is overly loud, don’t try to shout over it, just turn it off. We on the other end are usually listening through a headset, and it is difficult to hear anyway.
#4. Complicated Orders
If you are ordering food for twenty, want to substitute everything in your sandwich for something else, or want to put your food on more than one card you are better off just going inside and ordering at the counter. Complex orders take longer to make, and so they slow down the line making you, the cars around you, and our bosses upset. Also there is a greater chance we may get something wrong, and then no one is happy.
If you pull up to the window and the person at the register is not quite ready to take your money, please do not wave your cash in their direction in attempt to get their attention. Trust me, they see you. Though they may not look busy, chances are someone is rattling off an order over the headset, or they are about to grab something out of the oven. They will get to you as soon as they can.
#2. Credit Cards
If you need to search through your wallet for something, do not, I repeat DO NOT put your credit card in your mouth and then hand it to the cashier. We don’t want to touch your spit.
As a non-smoker, this one really irks me. Please wait the extra five minutes to light up. In our drive-thru at least, air is sucked into the kitchen when we open the window. Something about the vents or fans or whatever. That means that your cigarette smoke is blown right into our face. It is not a pleasant thing at all.
